Prompt Start Slated For 'Windjammer'
Deseret News, 30 August 1960, A11
A prompt 8:30 p.m. opening is scheduled for the premiere of "Windjammer"
Thursday at the Villa Theater, Manager Ted Kirkmeyer announced today.
He said that doors will open at 7:45 p.m. to allow for earlier seating
that is customary.
Noting that patrons have arrived after the film has started in the past,
he said that premiere activities must start promptly at 8:30 on "Windjammer"
because stars who will participate are due to leave Salt Lake immediately
afterwards for other engagements.
One of the group who must leave Salt Lake that evening is singer Lauritz
Melchior. The opera start, who is scheduled to appear at the Villa Thursday
evening, plans an appearance in Denver later that same evening.
He will arrive in Salt Lake Wednesday morning with a group of participants
in a recent international beauty contest in Long Beach. Shortly after
noon, comedian Tony Randall is scheduled to arrive at the Salt Lake Municipal
Airport.
He has consented to emcee the Villa premiere, according to Mr. Kirkmeyer.
He also will appear at the Uptown Theater Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in connection
with his latest film, "Let's Make Love," co-starring Marilyn
Monroe and Yves Montand.
Several studio executives also will accompany the celebrities to Salt
Lake. However, actress Patrice Wymore, who was scheduled to appear, has
canceled. She will be starting a new film this week. Although the former
wife of Errol Flynn will not be in Salt Lake in person, she will be in
the city coincident to the release of her newest movie, "Ocean's
Eleven," scheduled at the Utah.
The "Windjammer" premiere will be for the benefit of CARE.
M. Warshaw, president of Grand Central Stores, has purchased virtually
the entire house and is distributing tickets to customers who purchase
an advertised amount of groceries.
